You can look at the satellite image from the NOAA GOES bird, and see what is transpiring. Web cam images from Monida, Old Faithful, Teton Pass, and Yellowstone's West Entrance tell the story. Meanwhile, Bozeman Pass is a balmy 40 degrees with cloudy conditions (for now). If you tally the predicted snowfall for Old Faithful over the next several days, we can expect between 6 inches and a foot of new snow. The problem lately for Yellowstone's roads is that we keep getting one storm after another, and the sun is so low on the horizon at this time of year that places shaded by north-facing slopes and forests are not getting much of a chance to melt when the sun reappears. Most vehicles are not equipped with winter tires yet, and there are lots of visitors from all over the globe who are not used to driving in ice and snow. It's a recipe for vehicular mayhem!
