Thanks for contributing to the conversation. I never heard anything about the species, other than that it was a "distant cousin of plesiosaurs". Looking at what I found about nothosaurus, it appears it may have been more of an "ancestor".
It is noteworthy that this critter appears to have been widely distributed around the planet, much like today's seals. It kind of makes the discovery a bit less exotic, but adds to the tableau of long term biological and geological history on display in Yellowstone. I'm posting a link to one of the articles I found on the web, for the benefit of the curious, but lazy.
