He won because one candidate was hammered constantly and the other skated in mainstream media. People in cornfield country no longer believe in fair media, in establishment politicians on both sides of the aisle, failed policies and corruption in the justice system, open borders, lack of REAL jobs, destroying a chance to be energy independent, and a concern about the supreme court seat to fill. They knew what they getting from one candidate and didn't want it. They're not so dumb that they did not know they were taking a chance on the outsider, but a chance was better than nothing at all.
