Sorry I haven't been on much lately - lots of stuff going on, but could use a few prayers for Merlin today. He hasn't been doing too well lately ......elderly stuff like leg problems, and worsening of his normal occasional vomiting and hacking he has had for a while. But he is always perky and ready to go anywhere we go. We had out of town friends visiting and took them to Rocky yesterday. We went up fall river road to the top, since it was finally open. Merlin was fine and having a good time until we went over the top and then he became lethargic. I mean really lethargic. We got home late, so mostly watched him during the night and got him to drink some water from a bottle. The little he ate he threw up, although he had eaten breakfast yesterday morning just fine. Ray took him to the vet as soon as they opened (he didn't wake me, as I had finally fallen asleep on the couch at 5:30 after being up most of the night.) Blood test and xrays shows an internal infection, but cause unknown, enlarged kidney and an enlarged heart (congestive heart failure?). The vet said he was probably over compensating for awhile and the altitude yesterday was the tipping point. They are giving antibiotics by IV but will not give fluids until consulting with some other Drs. since fluid administered by IV is harder on the heart. They will call us a little later with an update. We know it is about his time, but we just want him to be able to get comfortable and be able to stay with us for a little bit longer if possible.
