I'm still with AT&T and handle payment through automatic withdrawal from my checking account. (I'm still old-fashioned and don't do electronic checking.) They also send me a paper billing and an e-mail billing. I deduct the amount from my checking account when I get the paper bill and don't have to write a check. I like to have the bill in my hand to look at it, which is for land line phone, Direct TV, and internet. Whenever the amount goes up too much (which it always does), I call them and complain and they give me some kind of special. They're scared they'll lose you as a customer, and I wonder if they wouldn't delete the late charge if you complained more. Some years ago my credit card company forgave the late charge when I called about it because I'd never been late before. Or you might just go ahead as others suggested and switch carriers. I'd be upset about that charge also.
