I checked to see. Most of the crane pictures from the watering hole (including this one) were taken at 300mm (effective 600mm with an Olympus OM-D), f/10. This one is ISO 400, 1/250 sec. I think most of the ones in the field were f/6.7 OK... checking again, I do see some of the others in the field were f/11. My lens doesn't open up too much at 300mm. The largest is f/6.7.

All I know is my pictures seemed to be a lot softer this year. It was frustrating to me, so I have tried several different f/stops trying to get what I was looking for. The autofocus beeps, I think I will have a focused picture, I check the playback... and soft/blurry. I am missing a lot this year. Maybe just pushing the lens too far with distance. I am always glad for the delete button.

I did check online for this lens, and it says it is sharpest at f/8 and between 150mm-200mm, with sharpness falling off rapidly after 200mm. So, what good is it having that extra 100mm at the end if the pictures aren't sharp?
