Nevada got its first National Park just recently, which includes Wheeler Peak and Lehman Caves, and some bristlecone pines as parts of Great Basin National Park, on the eastern side of Nevada.
Have never been there, but in 1973, we worked on pony express stations near Ibapah Peak and Rush Valley to the north. I guess we could see Great Basin in the distance to the south.
Didn't know about Verendrye. Is it the place where a lead tablet written in French was found near Pierre, SD?
