Akron and Cleveland and certain people thought they needed a park protected from urban sprawl. One man donated over 400 acres to the project and Pres. Gerald Ford declared it a NP near the time an industrial dump was discovered and clean-up was started. It has a river and "scenic railroad" and some Indian history behind it as well.
