It seemed this morning that a contest was happening in the Pine
Tree. Or a high stakes game.

The Copper s Hawk had arrived and the squirrels began to approach
her within three feet. The hawk opens its wings; flies around and
around the trunk of the tree chasing the squirrels. Up and down
and around the trunk go the squirrels with the bird whipping
around. The pine tree had been damaged by an ice storm so it was
easy to watch and for the hawk to fly staying within a foot of the
trunk. Such wonderful flying skill for the hawk and timing for the
squirrel.

There were 3 -5 squirrels in the tree and sometimes a few came down
and fed on the ground while one of them raced around the branches.
For a few moments, a rest period might occur for the hawk and again
a squirrel would come near and the chase was on again. This
activity lasted for 15 minutes until the hawk moved to another
tree, smoothed its feathers and finally left the area. The
squirrels went back to ordinary lives and I stopped laughing.
