There is one problem with using the gulley for the trail. Most
of the time, it WASN'T a problem. The gumbo was on top of a a
solid surface. So while we got gunk/gumbo building up on our
shoes with every step, it really was not a big deal.. and
actually made for relatively easy walking. EXCEPT.. for the one
time when it WASN'T solid underneath. I stepped down...
expecting to find a solid footing underneath.. and OOPS! My
leg went down in the mud AT LEAST up to mid-calf! (I said knee
later, but I was probably exaggerating...) I quickly handed off
my camera to Joshua... and pulled my foot out. Thankfully, my
shoe came out ON my foot. Don't know what I would have done
otherwise. As it was, I had almost 2 miles to walk in wet
muddy shoes/pants. Oh, well... Actually, it wasn't that much
of a problem. No blisters.. and the mud was almost dry by the
time we got to Hudson-Meng.
